Celebrating Great-Great-Grandmother Ada's Birthday

IN CELEBRATION of my great-great-grandmother's birthday. I want to share her music!

🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
To connect with other artists, composers, musicians, can be moving and inspirational.

...
But what is truly a compelling experience is the kind that emerges through time, blending two different lives lived in two completely different times on this planet, observing the world in unique ways as artists.

When I found out my great-great-grandmother was a musician and composer, my heart smiled. When I travelled to Flagstaff for research for my album and opened boxes that contained pieces she would perform at events over a century ago....my heart smiled even wider. To lay my hand on the yellowed sheets, quiet, resting, undisturbed for so many decades, through seasons changing, holidays, world wars, presidents, inventions....I felt the power of music, the power of that kind of connection.
When I came across a special piece Ada, my great-great-grandmother, had composed about her younger brother, Guy, I was thrilled. I gently placed the image I had against my keyboard and began to play the keys, the notes, and hear the color and energy come alive.

The piece captured my attention and my love. I felt so honored to have this piece before me and wanted to share the talent, the story, the sound with others. I wanted to highlight Ada, her abilities, her style, her heart through a rendition of her work.
I am so proud of my ancestors, their accomplishments in this world and I am ecstatic to have had everything align to showcase her song, "Guy Quickstep" on my album "100 Years Away".
Here is that track:

My Great-Grandmother at 121 Years

121 Years Ago......
I never knew what your voice sounded like but I'm sure it was just as sweet as your precious smile I'd find looking back at me from a vintage photo. I have often wondered about you…your life…your love for Bert, your children, your animals.

I know when I'm outside admiring the sun's playful dance with tree leaves or the iridescent sheen of a hummingbird's exquisite flight or during my feeding sessions with my feathered friend, Birdie Birdie, while I have m...y morning coffee, I smile knowingly.
I have that same adoration in me for nature's creatures and appreciation for my surrounding's the globe has created. And this endearment comes from you, Edith. You named your pet "turks" and chickens and enjoyed your horses and time outside, in the Grand Canyon. You were in your own utopia, your little slice of pure heaven. Your life and loves brought you so much joy.
I will always remember you and I am so happy my heart sees the beauty of my life around me the way yours saw your own.
With love.....happy birthday, my great-grandmother.
